The origin of the Vidyalaya goes back of sixties when Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan came into existence. Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 came into existence in 1964. It is one of the five earliest army schools taken over by the KVs.

Being one of the oldest and biggest vidyalayas it has magnificent history. During all these years, school has grown by leaps and bounds. Many significant events were conducted and celebrated here. Whether it is academics, sports or cultural activities, K. V. No.1 remains No.1 .for its excellence retaining its glorious past. The school has been a venue for national level social science exhibition and scout and guide camps.

The school campus has a large playground. All sports events, even sports day activities are conducted in the school campus. Other facilities like T .T. room and a basket ball court is also available. School has produced a number of national level players bringing laurels to the school.
